Elijah's Five Month Milestones

This has been the most exciting month to date as far as milestones go for Elijah. We have felt like nearly everyday he has added something to his bag of tricks. He really got the hang of rolling over this month and rolls all over the place now. It's fun to have him follow us around the room!

He weighed in at 20 pounds and 28.5 inches this month!

He is also sitting up all by himself. He seems like such a little boy now sitting and playing with toys. Speaking of toys, the boy actually really loves playing with toys now. I am no longer just stuffing a toy in his hand which I feel like I have been doing since birth. He has rotated favorites, but I would say this month, he has had a strong affinity towards Sully, his blue little monster toy that his Aunt Brit got him. One of his favorite times of the day is the beloved "tubby time" at night. He has always enjoyed kicking his legs in the tub, but now he likes to compete and see how large of a splash he can make with his kicks and he also enjoys sitting up and playing with his tub toys.

He has become quite flexible as of late and loves to bite his toes. He is also finding less and less comfort in a pacifier and more comfort in putting his hands in his mouth. He does not suck just his thumb, but prefers to attempt to put his whole fist in his mouth. Cute kid.

He has also started trying little bites of food thus the food on his shirt in our photoshoot. Sip of smoothie gone wrong. I am sure you are surprised, but the boy. loves. food. He does have Ryan and I's genes I guess. He loves just about any fruit he has tried to date, green peas, eggs, cooked carrots and avocados. Actually he has not met a food he has not liked yet. I gave him a small bite of tomato and he spit it out, but then I tried again and he was fine with it. I have not been pureeing any of his food, just giving him really small soft bites of whatever we are eating, but he is honestly so interested in food now, I think I might try some purees this month. We will see how lazy I am. He even grabbed the adult spoon out of my hand the other day and tried putting it to his mouth. I thought I had one more good month before he started being super interested in food, but I guess baby silverware, sippy cups, and bibs are in our near future.

No teeth have popped through yet! Still waiting....I thought for sure one would have come through by now with all the signs of teething he has been having for the past couple of months, but we will keep our eyes out for them this next month.

I know I mentioned in an earlier post that Elijah hates his carseat...probably because we dragged him across the country and all, but we thought things had gotten better and that he finally realized he would not be in his carseat for long periods of time every time, but we are experiencing some regression. Dude hates his car seat. He starts screaming from the moment you put him in until you take him out unless he happens to fall asleep while he is in there. I have come to the conclusion that the bottom part of the belt hurts his love chub on his legs, so contemplating moving up to a different seat. If any moms out there have any advice, we are all ears. Anything to be able to have a normal conversation with each other in the car.

I had to make the transition back to work unfortunately this month. Alas, my long 5 month maternity leave is over. I enjoyed every second with my little one and am so thankful for the time I had off and thankful to only be back part time with no intention of going full time. Love love love being a mommy and a keeper of my home and would not trade that role for the world. I am working as a pharmacist at Target and loving it so far, but just hating being away from home. Check out this earlier post here if you are interested in reading an honest account about how tough this transition was for me. But this transition was made so much easier because he has gotten to stay with my dear friend Emily and his best friend Elliot. Elliot is 6 months older than Elijah and I think following him around has really pushed him along in hitting some of his developmental milestones even earlier than what he would have normally done.

Thinking we might have a crawler this month...we will see! He is getting so strong and seems super motivated to get moving. I am so excited to see him continue to grow and develop on one hand and so NOT ready for it all on the other. I can't even count the number of times this month I have said to Ryan "Where has our baby gone?". I have already had to pull out his baby book out and reminisce.

Thankful for our sweet little love. He makes our day everyday. We are pretty obsessed with him and love being his parents.

Happy 5 months baby boy!
